Healing Programs
The body is programmed with an innate communication system. Some of the body's language includes pain, rashes, fevers, cravings and fatigue. Other signs include a change of organ or gland function and eventually its shape.

Outside of injury, there is always a reason why people become ill. Colds, flu, cancer, headache, depression; the diagnostic name is not important. What is important is what the body feels and how it is able to perform. Since everyone is unique, I use a combination of healing programs to personalize the healing process for each individual.

Applied Kinesiology
Applied Kinesiology is a safe, non-invasive reliable method for assessing sensitivities to various foods, synthetic chemicals and other environmental allergens. Applied Kinesiology uses a neuromuscular biofeedback circuit between a specific muscle and the brain. In the test, a muscle is challenged and the response is recorded by the ability of the muscle to hold and maintain its strength. Children find Applied Kinesiology to be a fun interactive game.

Ear Coning
Ear Candling is a safe, non-invasive method for removing outer ear debris such as wax, flaky skin and bacteria. Ear Candling begins with a "linen lined beeswax candle" gently inserted into the ear, the linen is ignited and with the shape and heat of the candle, a gentle vacuum is created stimulating blood circulation and lymphatic drainage. Many people comment on a light drawing sensation often clearing sinuses as well. A gentle sinus and upper neck massage is performed to enhance the circulation removing microscopic toxins and impurities. Ear Candling is safe for all ages and most effective for children.

Biotherapeutic Drainage
Biotherapeutic Drainage is the gentle use of homeopathic remedies to encourage the process of detoxifying the body by opening the emunctories and then discharging the toxic accumulation. An emunctory is any tissue which is capable of allowing excretions to exit out of the body. These excretions may include heavy metals such as lead, mercury, aluminum; synthetic chemicals from environmental toxins, pharmaceutical residues or even microbials such as fungi, parasites or moulds.

When the natural excretory system is blocked by congested material or inadequate for normal breakdown, the body will develop a condition, or illness, often referred to as an "itis" such as arthritis or sinusitis or tendonitis. The four primary emunctories are the skin, intestines, lung and urinary tract. The liver, stomach and pancreas are not tissues that permit removal of wastes to the exterior of the body; however, they perform many essential tasks in supporting the function of the primary emunctories.

Energy Medicine
Humans are “Energy Beings." We use energy, we store energy, we release energy and we have a higher connection to a "Universal Energy." When imbalances in the physical, emotional, mental or spiritual planes occur, the energy pattern is disrupted and the body, like a transponder, sends out signals to the human of feeling "a little off, or "out of sorts" or "beside oneself." In our clinic, we use a variety of proven ancient energy medicine techniques to restore vitality, a sense of calmness and balance within the body.

Chakra Energy Balancing:Chakras are energy centers which act as gateways between various dimensions - centers where activity of one dimension such as an emotional activity connects and plays upon another dimension such as the physical body. This then plays a role in how we interact with the outside world and governs our interactions with others. There are seven major chakra centers each one associated with the seven basic levels of consciousness.

Chakras can be open, closed or any of the various stages in between. The quality and quantity of energy that moves in and about a chakra has to do with how open or closed it may be. For example, a person who has a closed fifth chakra (communication) would feel choked up and would have an unwillingness to change. During a Chakra Energy Balancing session, the Practitioners hands are used as vessels to sense the energy or lack of energy in and around a chakra. Through subtle movements, the practitioner is able to clear blockages and release energy to help balance and restore harmony. This being done, the individual feels a sense of calmness, often clarity and an overall sense of balance within not only the physical plane, but the mental, emotional and spiritual planes as well.

Electro Magnetic Field Balancing:The electromagnetic field patterns of an individual are aligned through a series of gentle stretching and clearing of the energy anatomy. During or after a balancing, clients often feel a warmth or tingling as energy is moved about the body. Some have expressed a feeling of wholeness as EMF balancing allows a client to experience his or her own electromagnetic field. As a certified EMF practitioner, I encourage clients to share thoughts with me while I rebalance his or her energy fields.

Reiki:(ray-key): As a Reiki master of over 12 years, my hands have been privileged to share the healing aspects of this ancient Japanese healing art of lying on of hands. In Japan, the word "Ki" means "universal life energy" and it is from this word that Reiki is named. Reiki is a form of channelling "Ki" energy for healing. Reiki is different to massage. Reiki clears and balances blocked energy by laying hands gently and specifically over key areas of the body. This relaxing and mindful therapy is used for chronic pain and illnesses, reducing stress and for a personal awakening and awareness to one's own energy patterns.

Ion Cleanse
Today, we live in the most polluted environment in the earth's known history.

We continually inhale and assimilate residues from petrochemicals, plastics and pesticides. All are harmful toxins that occupy cell receptor sites and block hormone utilization. Consider the following statistics:

  • 1,600% increase in birth defects since 1980
  • 250% increase in breast cancer since 1980
  • 59% decrease in male sperm count since 1940
  • 500% increase in cancer mortality since 1900
  • 400% increase in heart disease since 1900

While no process or modality can guarantee the prevention of these conditions, it is logical to assume that an ongoing detoxification program - the act of minimizing toxic accumulations in the body - will reduce the incidence of chronic degenerative disease and improve overall quality of life.

Independent scientific research has shown one safe nonintrusive way to detoxify the body is through an ionizing cleansing. By converting AC electricity to low power DC electricity, the current flows through a patented array electrode system that sits in the footbath. The electricity and the metal combine to split the water molecule into H+ and OH- ions. These ions travel through the body, neutralize oppositely charged particles and through powerful osmotic pressure pull those neutralized particles out of the body through the feet back into the water.

As the feet contain approximately 5000 entry - exit points, the foot bath is a practical solution for detoxifying children, adults, seniors, disabled or handicapped people.

The Ion Cleanse Process:

Various colors and debris material in the water indicate which cellular areas of the body are detoxifying.

For example, brown indicates detoxifying from the liver, tobacco and cellular debris. Orange indicates detoxifying from the joints. Ten different color patterns have been identified representing various toxic debris and cellular areas.

Clients report improved comfort through regular cleansing. Ongoing and periodic detoxification combined with a healthy lifestyle and proper nutritional supplementation is essential for good health.

Massage Therapies
No one enjoys pain or being sidelined as a result of muscle injury. Muscles, like other parts of the body, have a memory and when stretched beyond their normal capacity, the result is cellular damage, tissue inflammation, sleepless nights, missed work, missed play and often unrelenting pain.

Professional athletes before working at any sport are trained to warm their muscles through stretching exercises. Amateurs and “Week-end Warriors” are not. The same applies to ordinary people as home and work related accidents often manifest as muscle injuries.

Although not a Registered Massage Therapist, I have had extensive training and experience in working in various massage techniques. As a Kinesiologist, how the body moves is my prime concern; this involves the skeleton, soft tissues and nerves. Whether through an accident or injury, incorrect postural positions or stress related muscle tension, any of the following massage techniques will increase blood and lymphatic circulation, reduce energy blockages, reduce scar tissue, reduce tightness and increase mobility resulting in healing and relaxation.

Acupressure:From the Oriental healing arts. Acupressure shares its roots with Shiatsu and Acupuncture. All of the Oriental therapies base their healing on treating imbalances in the level and flow of the body's Energy. Acupressure uses finger and thumb pressure on specific points along the Meridian Channels to manipulate any Energy imbalances. By manipulating these points, the energy can be strengthened, dispersed or calmed allowing for smooth flow of energy movement in the body.

Hot Rock Massage: Sometimes known as Hot Stone Massage, this massage technique makes use of special flat stones that retain their heat once warmed. When the stones are placed on key points of the body, the heat increases blood and lymphatic circulation enhancing relaxation and stimulating movement of toxins while calming the nervous system. This massage technique explores the therapeutic and energetic use of rocks to produce a deep relaxing experience and a connection with the energies of the earth.

Deep Tissue Massage: This type of massage technique focuses on realigning the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. The strokes are similar to those used in classic massage therapy, but the pressure is deeper and the movement slower. Deep Tissue Massage is used to “breakdown” scar tissue and encourage circulation resulting in a release of muscle tension and unwanted stored calcium or mineral deposits.

Deep tissue massage is particularly effective for relief of chronic tension in the low back, neck and shoulder areas.

Trigger Point Therapy: Trigger points are hyperirritable points that appear in skeletal muscle tissue as palpable nodules in tight bands of muscle fibers. When these trigger points receive compression, there is usually a pain response either at the site or a referred pain response at another site. Once identified, these trigger points can be alleviated with gentle pressure and the affected muscle is then able to elicit a relaxation response.

Nutritional Assessment
The body thrives on food either from an emotional need or physical need. How well we choose the food we put into our bodies will directly affect how well our bodies will perform. Humans, like any other animal, must expend less energy acquiring food than what the food delivers. In other words, a wolf must get more energy (nutrition) from eating a rabbit then he or she spends chasing and killing it; otherwise, the wolf would be in a nutritional deficit and die.

Humans have become the epitome of this philosophy. We drive seated in our cars to the grocery store, pick up our packaged food, drive home; stick it in the microwave or conventional oven and when the timer goes off...we eat. Or worse yet, we drive to a speaker and tell a faceless voice what we would like to eat, drive to a window and are handed our food. When we look at the caloric consumption of the food we have eaten and the amount of calories we have expended on getting it into our mouths, no wonder we are an overweight, diabetic, exercised challenged society with high risk of cardiovascular disease and colon cancer.

Health challenges occur when systems of the body are out of balance. Often this imbalance is due to nutritional deficiencies and the over abundance of food that congests the body which in turn makes organ and gland function sluggish. Over time, if left unaddressed, this sluggishness leads to an actual tissue change in the body, by means of deposits, growths, under or over production of certain hormones and eventually a change in function. An example of this is Irritable Bowel Syndrome. First it presents as occasional bowel gas and cramping, then moves to a more immediate elimination by way of looser stools followed by bouts of constipation. Eventually, this inflammatory disorder gives way to polyps and the possibility of more serious cellular change with the end diagnosis of Colon Cancer.

Nutritional balance is an important protocol. To help determine proper diet changes, assessments are done and lab analyzed.

Reflexology is a natural therapy which applies pressure primarily to the feet but also to the hands. This technique uses specific thumb, finger and hand strokes involving a mapped out system of zones and reflex sites which correlate to specific organs and glands in the body. By applying pressure to these reflex points on the feet and hands, a corresponding physical change may be felt in the body.

As a Certified Reflexologist and member of the Reflexology Registration Council of Ontario, I have incorporated this therapy into protocols to decrease pain, promote calming of the nervous system in such conditions as ADHD and stimulate circulation not only to the extremities but also to organs such as the brain, kidneys, intestines and liver. Reflexology is a wonderful therapy to promote relaxation while stimulating the body into its natural healing state.

Rehabilitative Exercise Programs
Soft tissue or joint disorders as a result of injury, poor posture or stress, tend to restrict movement and are often accompanied by pain. To facilitate the healing of damaged tissue, precise manipulation and strengthening movements are necessary.

As a Certified Pilates Instructor and Kinesiologist my background includes the understanding of the processes necessary to retrain and reprogram memory movements back into the muscle or muscle groups. This retraining is carried out by applying specific stretching and strengthening programs in the clinic and at home.

For individuals with chronic neck or back pain, I offer personal Pilates training designed to teach core muscle strengthening. For more information on Pilates, see Special Events.

Weight Loss
Weight gain is an epidemic of our western society today. The World Health Organization has made many announcements concerning the excessive weight gain of our population; men, women and particularly children are all at risk. Being overweight does put the body and its structures at a higher risk for many diseases including diabetes, high blood pressure and other cardiovascular disorders, respiratory distress and unwanted stress on bones and joints.

The weight loss program I design includes a nutritional assessment as well as teaching the understanding of how to eat the proper "fuel" and the removal of foods that do not contribute well to the body. Our program is not a short term diet but rather a long term lifestyle nutritional change.

Weight gain for many women can also be as a result of hormonal imbalances, particularly thyroid, adrenal or estrogen / progesterone imbalances. Though assessment techniques, we can identify or eliminate this possibility. See Lab Services for further information on Salivary Hormone Testing.
